Why Costa Rica
Costa Rica is located between Nicaragua and Panama about nine degrees north of the equator. Just a bit smaller than Kentucky, its capital, San Jose, is in the center of the country about 100 miles from Nosara. Costa Rica has two coasts, the Caribbean Sea on the east, and Pacific Ocean on the west.
Costa Rica has five climate zones from arid to tropical. An expansive mountain range with four volcanoes and dense tropical wilderness separates the coastal plains. Biologically abundant, with countless varieties of animals and plants, Costa Rica boasts the most diverse selection of Orchids species on Earth.
Government
The Republic of Costa Rica is the safest nation in Central America. It has no standing army, universal healthcare and the highest literacy rate in Central America, 96%. Their population of four million people is spread among seven provinces. Costa Rica’s economy is based on tourism, agriculture and electronics export. Costa Rica won independence from Spain 15 Sept 1821, its constitution is a democratic Republic modeled after Spanish civil law.
Weather
Costa Rica is rather unique, it has four climate zones; Tropical and Subtropical, cover most of the land but in the mid and high mountain regions the climate becomes Temperate and there are a few Arid desert-like areas too.
Nosara is Tropical and SubTropical meaning there is a dry season (December to April); and a wet season (May to November). The Wet season has rain but also high humidity. Winds will usher the changes in seasons. Unsually lasting only a few weeks, they can be powerful.

Nosara is located on the Pacific side, half way up the Guanacaste Peninsula in the Nicoya District at the mouth of the Nosara and Montana rivers. Nosara has five Playas (beaches) each with its own attraction from fishing, to surfing to nature watching. Founded in the 1960’s the Nosara Civic Association American Project is the oldest expatriate community in Costa Rica. It is also host to the Nosara Biological Reserve, set on 125 acres. its home to hundreds of birds, monkeys, armadillos, anteaters and crabs. One of the beaches is where Olive Ridley sea turtles come to lay their eggs.
