Nosara's Real Estate Future

As idyllic as this may sound to some, the Beaches of Nosara remained quite remote, isolated and underdeveloped until very recently. The local economy subsisted primarily as a surfing destination due to the consistent waves of Playa Guiones. Recently, bridges were put in place over all the rivers south of the area making year-round access possible from the town of Nicoya. A new $35 million bridge spanning the Tempisque River opened in April 2003 shortening the eight-hour drive from San Jose to five hours.

The Costa Rican government initiated the process of paving the Pacific Coast Highway from Tamarindo south, through the Nosara community on its way to Samara. It will open up the community to more visitors by reducing the drive time from Liberia’s International Airport to Nosara to less than 90 minutes! This will provide the important piece of the all-important infrastructure puzzle: location, electricity, phones, Internet, water and updated roads. Significant property value increases have followed such developments elsewhere in Costa Rica.

The opening of a new international airport in Liberia, a two hour drive to the north has also simplified access and put the beaches in convenient reach and attention of a new generation of residents and tourists. A soon to be completed highway extension west of San Jose to Jaco will also reduce the driving time to three hours. This project is underway and should be completed in 2008.
